BACKGROUND: This website has been created as part of a 5-week sabbatical project in June / July 2010. Searching for UK relevant addictions information on the internet can take time; the ultimate aim of this site is to provide a resource for all to find a range of information all in one site. I will continue to update the site so do return for updates; I have also added news feeds to keep the site as current as possible.
RESEARCH: Many thanks to Shaun Kennedy, Deputy Librarian, Royal College of Psychiatrists for undertaking the literature search using the term ‘ADDICTION’ for 2005-2010; there were 4000 abstracts. I have subdivided the literature into topic areas and year groups and then made a link to a word document. None are so large that they could not be scanned through to find papers of interest, but in future they would benefit from being easier to search. You can search the site using the Google search bar. For those who share my sense of discomfort regarding animal research, all abstracts clearly involving animal research are marked’(A)’. The Newcomb Library, Homerton University Hospital, Hackney has been excellent throughout and continue to supply me with addiction research abstract PDFs.
WEBSITE PRODUCTION: Huge thanks to Simon for teaching me how to set up a basic website.
ART WORK: The STIK drug depiction characters on this site are a personal commission; many thanks to STIK for all his time, passion and amazing skill in the use of line work to create emotion.
SABBATICAL: Thank you to the East London NHS Foundation Trust for supporting me in carrying out this project.
